“Salt” is a digital imagery series that combines photography and digital manipulation. Each image features salt in random patterns. The photograph was then edited for color and composition.
The images started as mundane, drab photos of sidewalks covered in pink salt. (Yes, the same salt used to melt ice.) However, the sun was lower in the sky, causing each granule to cast its own shadow. Each slab seemed to have its own patterns, and I could see how some of these also had footprints from people walking by. That little touch of humanity made me want to explore how salt was used in everyday life.
